PROJECT 3 DAY 2

Today was a day of progression where we worked out what path we wanted to take in the manifesto design. I discovered a font that fitted neatly into shapes and I thought of using this on a 3D shape such as a football or rugby ball which represents my love for sport which would be ideal for a more personal manifesto. Giving so much time towards planning is often annoying because people get impatient and want to go straight into a project with an idea that they think that they are already firm with; however it is very useful because it allows for the creative juices to flow fully and you will keep bettering your previous ideas or keep improving original ideas after you have noticed the faults or slight weaknesses. Overall I have learnt that planning is great and that doing it in a messy style is great for me as an individual because that's how I seem to be most creative in my work, when I'm not worrying about making mistakes I am more relaxed and work more successfully which is why I am going to carry on with this messy scattering of plans and ideas technique throughout the rest of my work.

PROJECT 3 DAY 1

This project involves the creation of a manifesto displaying information about ourselves by the next Friday. I am quite pleased with the way this project is heading because it is more graphic based then the previous project which was heavily based on film and computer animation which is something I am not so experienced in and therefore feel less confident about. I started by doing a brainstorm of ideas related to the brief surrounding my experiences and aspirations and the doing 40 pages of brief sketched manifesto page ideas. My ideas were all done quickly and roughly in my sketchbook allowing space for improvements at a later stage if needed. Also doing it so quickly meant that my ideas flowed flowed much more easily onto the page. Working at this speed is good practice for the future when I need to regurgitate ideas at a fast rate. So far I am enjoying the project and have expanded my ideas into the region of 3D graphics- something that I feel will make my design unique from the majority of other peoples work and originality is something I always strive to achieve.

Brainstorm of ideas.

Illustration heavy design.

Yellow brick road like design into sunset with info either side.

Letters and words create the shape of a body/ figure.

PROJECT 2 DAY 3

This is a computer edit of the hand drawn poster I made for my groups film based on the word 'new'.

Using such a strict and simple colour scheme allowed for easy editing when it came to basic computer editing. The blue would be suitable if I was aiming to achieve a more moody tone.

This is the original unedited version of the poster I created. I was trying to capture the style of old fashioned circus style posters where the bold font pile on top of each other making a ladder with some famous characters- Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix included in a thoughtful pose as if answering the question the poster asks themselves.

This shows the posters created within my group for our film on 'new'. This image of them grouped together shows the range of styles used but all have profound meaning either hidden or clearly demonstrated by the dynamics within the poster.

Two very simple but effective designs. The tree created by the words 'new' and 'now' on the orange poster is graphically so simple as a design that everyone recognises and that's what the audience appreciate- something that they can relate to which draws them in.

I really like this simple design as well, the minimalist approach is very successful here because when you first look at it; it can seem quite empty or simply about new music but then the more you look at it the more you read into it, where the stretched new could represent music through time and I really like the shadow which actually spells 'old' - very original.

Again the poster on the left uses recognisable forms such as the daft punk album logo which at this moment is very new so again the message of new is clear to the beholder.

When creating the film to be uploaded onto youtube, our most technically skilled group members used 'imovie' to put all of our ideas, images and contributions into one final product.

Here is the youtube link to the film - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxLwxUTELvY

Overall as a project I did enjoy creating a film and looking deeply into the definition of a single word. The group I worked together with, worked well as a team which helped this project go smoothly. All ideas were considered and filtered so that we achieved the best final product. I would say that within the group essentially only one person can solely edit and produce the film which puts a lot of pressure on them whereas other individuals may not have much to do however given this situation I think as a group we did well to give near enough equal amounts of effort and work between each other in the process of making this film. I am pleased with how the project went and with the final film produced however if I was to do a project like this again I would like to have more time which would allow for slicker editing and the eradication of minor mistakes. Also to do some camera filming is something I would like to try next time to try and capture real life on film which is going down a much different route to the one my group took when we decided to take a very strong graphic approach to the film making.

PROJECT 2 DAY 2

Regrouping a day after our initial ideas, everyone agreed that the video needed to take a different direction to be made shorter from how it was originally planned in day one. The theme of music was still popular to take as a direction so we looked into how we would cover this in the film.

These are some of the suggested album covers that we agreed looked older/ of a different era to when they were actually made.

The first 3 listed tracks and artists are covers of previously original tracks and we are going to focus/ question what is new the track as a single or question it being new at all because it has been recycled. The next 3 listed are all tracks that sound like they have been made in another musical era to that of which they have actually been made in.

These are two squares from the story board we made for the film planning. The combination of text and sketches explain themselves.

This is the basic idea for the title sequence and introduction to the film.

This is the whole storyboard which shows the basic outline of the film we plan to make. This plan is flexible enough to accommodate any last minute changes particularly if the music sections are longer than we expected.

Overall I think that a solid plan has been created and laid out by our group which has worked well together with every individual putting effort into the construction of this film. I think potentially we have been optimistic in hoping to fit everything in this storyboard into a two minute video however if it does work it would be great, but even if we didn't manage to fit it all in scrapping the fashion section or changing timings of the music and album cover graphics sections can be altered. At this stage I feel confident that we can achieve an end product which is quite successful if we carry on working at this rate. Although if the computer editing does not go to plan then we could be in serious trouble because we are heavily relying in the music sound aspect to run smoothly because essentially that at the moment is the main part of our film. I need to work on producing a poster for this film now and I have many ideas which are relevant to the current plan so I am looking forward to creating my own film poster.
