PROJECT 7 DAY 3

Completion of each section of the poster was carried out today. The characters' colour key, the 1960s map and character paths, the 1970s map and character paths and the symbols for death aswell as the title. I combined all separate components to form a successful map much similar to the London underground map. I feel that I have successfully created a visual presentation of data that is understandable and visually impressive. To improve next time I would do much more other artist research to influence and inspire my own work also enabling me to step out the comfort zone of techniques and graphics that I already know.

PROJECT 7 DAY 2

I carried on with my idea of doing a map for the film: 'City of God', I watched the film and noted down all the characters and settings and where each character went. I plan to construct something similar to the London underground map which maps out the journeys of the main 13 characters and even where they're journeys meet a gruesome end. This is quite a difficult procedure and takes lots of planning because for it to work it has to be perfect and I cannot anticipate certain problems which are likely to occur so I will have to be able to adapt to mistakes and change them as well as I can whilst completing this project because starting again isn't an option, there simply isn't enough spare time for that. I have completed most of the basic planning and now I need to make a draft map on large paper before I input all the information onto a much neater computer format. I am pleased with how my work is flowing at the moment and how I am adapting problems into strengths and constantly reflecting on how I want this map to look. So far so good, I need to just keep putting effort into this project in order for it to be successful.

PROJECT 7 MAPPING AND WAYFINDING DAY 1

I started the day making lots of plans about what I should possibly do and how to go out representing something as a map. I had lots of ideas which was good because it allowed me to see the strongest ones and eliminate the weakest ones. My primary research involved exploring what a good map shows and I believe this to be a clear demonstration and overview of information where the viewer can spot what they need to see as fast as possible. I thought about original topics to map out which might not be thought of as a stereotypical map. I mapped out a few films and tv shows such as lord of the rings and prison break where characters journeys meet and end sin a similar style to the icon and linear underground London maps. To make this more personal I then decided to look into producing a character map like this for one of my favourite films - 'City of God'. I am glad I thought a lot about this project in the first day and feel confident in going forward and exploring this idea further most probably through illustration. I have a few ideas but so far this idea can only progress and be redrafted, I need to keep an open mind to any possible improvements.

PROJECT 6 (XMAS HOLIDAYS) - 'KING OF OCEAN AND AIR' VIDEO

Over the Christmas break I completed a project named: 'passage of time', after much research I decided to delve into a smaller aspect of time, that being slow-motion. I started off thinking that I would hand draw all stop motion frames showing a great white shark jumping out of the water and then using the computer I could edit the speeds that the frames happened in to vary the motion from slow to normal life speed and allow the viewer to see how much happens in such a small amount of time when you look closer. I realised that drawing would take a lot more time then I originally expected so instead I took print-screens of a youtube video of a shark jumping out of the water and then I edited these using photoshop and adobe illustrator. I also messed around with the order of the frames in windows movie maker, experimenting to see what looked best and then deciding that only the original order and that reversed looked good I started to compile different version constantly redrafting to achieve my final video. I am pleased with my experimental efforts and my final outcome but I still think that improvement can be made especially when just tidying up some of the basic aspects and making the final edits more creative at the end allowing for a nicer flow. I would like to create a video again but perhaps next time I would like to experiment with real video footage and attempt to make something to a professional level. Below is my final draft named: 'KING OF OCEAN AND AIR'.
